Where We Work
EREC operates in climate-vulnerable regions of Central and Northern Uganda, focusing on urban informal settlements and peri-urban communities. In Wakiso District and Kampala, over 60% of households live in informal settlements, and 41% lack improved sanitation. Waste mismanagement and urban expansion pose health risks and environmental stress. Climate-related floods and heatwaves are common, and youth unemployment and limited access to basic services persist. In Lira District, over 71% rely on subsistence agriculture, yet deforestation, soil erosion, and water scarcity increase. More than 85% of households depend on firewood or charcoal, straining ecosystems. Women and girls face compounded risks related to reproductive health, water access, and gender-based violence. EREC’s interventions aim to transform these challenges through inclusive, community-owned solutions that restore ecosystems, create livelihoods, expand WASH services, and support youth and women as change agents.
EREC operates through a hybrid business model that ensures both impact and financial sustainability
